The large scale plans and surveys of parishes, drawn to facilitate apportionment of money payments, can be used in conjunction with census records to locate houses, lands and industrial premises owned or occupied by parishioners. Tithe records are deposited in parish chests, county record offices or the National Archives.
The 1838 Tithe map and schedule for West Grimstead are deposited at Wiltshire Record Office. They are in extremely good condition, but because of the size of the map and because it has been encased it a plastic covering to protect it, it is difficult to reproduce so I am only able to display small portions of this map.
The following is a transcript of the landowners, occupiers and map numbers on the schedule.The original schedule also lists the acreage and the tithes due.

"The Tithe Commisssioners for England and Wales hereby certify the within written to be a true copy of the Instrument of Apportionment of the rent charge in lieu of Tithes in the Parish of West Grimstead in the County of Wilts confirmed by the said Commissioners In testimony whereof they have hereunto caused their official Seal to be affixed this twenty first day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight"
